Noritz NR83-DVC Tankless Water Heater

With the onset of winter at our doorstep, the last thing you want is to get stuck in the cold…a cold shower, that is!

Well, if you want to make sure you don’t run out of hot water this winter, make the switch to a Noritz tankless water heater. You’ll save money in the long run and have endless hot water.

Noritz America, the world’s leading manufacturer of tankless water heaters and the official tankless water heater of Brad Pitt’s Make It Right project in New Orleans, Good Housekeeping’s Harlem Green House, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition for 2009 and Leonardo di Caprio’s Greensburg, Kansas rebuilding efforts, has raised the bar once again with its new NR83-DVC tankless unit.

The NR83-DVC is the most eco-friendly tankless water heater on the market today, allowing consumers the ability to not only experience on-demand hot water, but also contribute to the healing of our fragile environment by decreasing their personal carbon footprint.

And, if that’s not enough, with the Federal Tax Credits available through December 31, 2010, homeowners that purchase a new Noritz unit can realize savings upwards of $1,500. So, it’s a win-win.
We spoke with Bob Hitchner, Noritz America Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, and he says if there was ever a right time to convert to tankless, it is now.

Said Hitchner, “Not only does the Noritz NR83-DVC (along with Noritz’s entire product line) give homeowners all the benefits of Noritz’s world-class technology, residents purchasing by year’s end can take advantage of the existing Stimulus Tax Credits that can amount to huge savings on the purchase of a new Noritz unit. “It really is an unbeatable combination.”

For those unfamiliar with tankless, here’s a quick lesson. Tankless water heaters work on-demand so they only heat water when necessary. When a hot water fixture is turned on or hot water is required by an appliance, the heater will sense the demand and heat the water accordingly. Standard tank water heaters store and heat water at all times, so this results in higher operating costs. In addition, tank water heaters have a limited supply of hot water, whereas a tankless system provides an endless supply of hot water. Also, since a tankless water heater is about the size of a carry-on suitcase, space consumption is drastically reduced.

The NR83-DVC’s design fulfills Noritz’s strong desire to reduce environmental burden and atmospheric pollutions. By reducing electric consumption and eliminating waste as well as decreasing the use of environmentally hazardous materials, the NR83-DVC sets the standard for recyclability and confirms Noritz’s commitment to be the “green” leader in tankless water heater technology.

The eco-friendly features of the NR83-DVC and its resulting positive impact on the environment include:
  • Exterior Casing & Burner Case (reduces hexad chrome)
  • Power Transformer (reduces consumption of stand-by electricity)
  • Water Flow Servo & Lightning Protector (reduces the use of lead)
  • PCB & Remote Circuit Boards (reduces the use of lead)
  • Inlet/Outlet Bracket (reduces the use of Cadmium)
The addition of the NR83-DVC gives Noritz an even greater stranglehold within the industry and offers consumers the most complete line of tankless products in the marketplace. The new product is ideal for smaller households and its space-saving design and zero clearance on venting makes the NR83-DVC perfect for tight areas. It also boasts a 0.82 E.F., which qualifies it for the maximum federal tax credit available.

From the smallest units, the NR66, NR71 and NR98 to the market’s most energy efficient, the NRC111 condensing unit, homeowners will be able to enjoy endless hot water while being energy efficient. In order to achieve the Energy Star rating, all units required a minimum of 82% thermal efficiency; all of the qualifying Noritz units meet that basic requirement and Noritz’s flagship model, the NRC111 condensing unit, boasts a whopping 94% super efficiency.

Noritz introduces eco-friendly tankless water heater - NR83-DVC

Noritz debuts concentric-vented, 180,000 BTU/h tankless water heater, with eco-friendly design for one and two-bath homes

NR83-DVC offers lower emissions; reduced lead, chrome and cadmium content; and easier recyclability.

The NR83-DVC  is the latest addition to the Noritz collection of whole-home, residential tankless water heaters. The NR83-DVC will allow professional plumbing installers to make a strong eco-friendly statement to homeowners interested in shrinking not only their carbon footprint but their fuel bills as well.

Just like all tankless water heaters, the new concentric-vented NR83-DVC saves energy while it protects the environment simply heating water on demand. The NR83-DVC offers a longer product life span than standard tank water heaters. The NR83-DVX also touts lower emissions, reduced electrical consumption, smaller amounts of potentially hazardous construction materials. To top it off, the NR83-DVC boasts easier recyclability of those materials and component as well.

The Noritz NR83-DVC is the greenest tankless water eater to hit the market. Featuring an eco-friendly design, the NR83-DVC boasts the following green improvements over the previous generation of tankless water heaters:

  • Reduced amounts of hexad chrome in the coating of the exterior and the burner case
  • Reduced amounts of lead in the water-flow servomotor, the lightning protector and the circuit board
  • Reduced amount of cadmium in the inlet/outlet bracket
  • Reduced consumption of standby electricity
Perhaps most impressive is that Noritz has attached component specific alpha codes within the NR83-DVC to aid in identifying recyclable parts at the end of the water heater's life cycle

"Noritz is committed to investing in technologies and products that will reduce the burdens on our environment, including atmospheric pollution," says Bob Hitchner, Vice President of Business Development & Marketing for the Noritz America Corporation.

"We are also committed to providing our distributors and their contractor customers with the most complete lineup of whole-house tankless products on the market. The NR83-DVC allows us to achieve both goals, giving professional contractors even more options to meet the needs of their customers."

Product specifications
With inputs ranging from 18,000 BTU per hour to 180,000 BTU/H and flow rates from 0.5 gallons per minute to 8.3 GPM, the NR83-DVC is designed specifically for one-bathroom homes in the Northeast, the Midwest and Canada, as well as two-bath residences in the Southeast and Southwest. At a 45°F rise in temperature, the unit will operate at a flow rate of 6.7 GPM, delivering water temperatures from 100°F to 140°F.

"The intermediate size of this unit enables the contractor to offer smaller homes a more affordable tankless solution, while meeting all of a household's daily hot-water needs," Hitchner explains.

Measuring a compact 23.6 inches x 13.8 inches x 9.4 inches, the 49-pound water heater offers these important features:
  • Low NOx, Eco-Burner™: The NR83-DVC is the first model in the Noritz residential line to use a new, high-efficiency low-NOx Eco-Burner that reduces emissions.
  • Commercial-grade heat exchanger: The NR83-DVC is the only tankless water heater in its category with a commercial-grade heat exchanger that features a pipe diameter 15% larger and 25% thicker than a standard residential unit. Built for higher performance as well as longer life, the NR83-DVC heat exchanger also has a larger "fixed" bypass to boost its maximum flow rate from 7.1 GPM to an industry-leading 8.3 GPM, a 17% gain in capacity over the Noritz NR71.
  • Adjustable concentric venting: The 3-inch/5-inch, pipe-within-a-pipe construction of the Category III Stainless Steel Venting Kit reduces installation time over a two-pipe system by offering zero clearance to combustibles and by requiring only one wall penetration, not two. Also, Noritz venting materials are fully adjustable to the length of the vent run and the number of elbows. This flexibility spares the installer from the time-consuming chore of custom-cutting and assembling lengths of pipe and fittings to build a system. Vent runs can extend up to 38 feet with no elbows; to 21 feet with three elbows. This kit can also be used with the Noritz NR98-DVC model, designed for larger residential applications, thus reducing venting-material inventories a contractor needs to fully serve the whole-home tankless water heater segment.
  • Dipswitch adjustments: The NR83-DVC further simplifies the installation job by eliminating all wire connectors. Adjustments for vent length, high-elevation settings and default temperature settings can be made on a dipswitch bank that is readily accessible near the top of the circuit board inside the unit. The NR83-DVC accommodates four different high-elevation settings: standard, 2,000 feet, 4,000 feet and 6,000 feet.
  • Programmable remote controller: Displaying temperatures in both Fahrenheit and Celsius, this new controller can be programmed to remind the homeowner to call for servicing at six-, 12- or 24-month intervals, but without disrupting normal operations.
